1. Collective Agreement 4/2003 of the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) makes provision for educators appointed at post level 1 and remunerated at salary level 8 to become senior teachers with effect from 1 January 2004 should they qualify for this in terms of the prescribed criteria.
2. The Western Cape Education Department is in possession of the recommendations regarding the grade progression of these educators. It has, however, not yet been possible to implement their grade progression on the Persal system. The reason for this is that the new rank codes required for the new post and salary structure, as contained in Collective Agreement 4/2003, have not yet been implemented on the Persal system. This matter is being attended to at national level.
3. As soon as the new rank codes have been implemented on the Persal system, the grade progression and the accompanying salary adjustment (with retrospective effect from 1 January 2004) in respect of the educators concerned will become effective.
4. Please bring the contents of this minute to the attention of all educators, especially those concerned, and request them to sign and date the minute.
