1. The attention of principals/centre managers and chief invigilators is drawn to the fact that two timed-accuracy tests form a compulsory part of the Typing question paper. Each learner will be credited with the higher of the two marks he or she obtained for the two tests attempted.

N.B.: Principals/centre managers and chief invigilators are reminded that the time limit for each timed-accuracy test in Typing is 10 minutes. Any additional time allowed will be regarded as an irregularity.

2. Principals/centre managers and chief invigilators are urgently requested to ensure that the following arrangements in connection with the examination in Typing are strictly adhered to:
2.1 The instructions to invigilators state that learners must enter the examination room 25 minutes before the examination is due to start. Learners for Typing must, however, be allowed into the examination room 35 minutes earlier in order to practise on their typewriters and to get their typewriters ready for the examination after they had settled in their correct seats. Learners must, however, terminate these activities, approximately 10 minutes before the commencement of the examination when the first question paper will be handed out.
2.2 The first paper consists of a timed-accuracy test of 10 minutes. After the first question papers have been handed out, learners must be given 10 minutes to thoroughly read the instructions and the question paper and to prepare themselves for the timed-accuracy test. Typing paper must be inserted in the typewriters before the timed-accuracy test commences.
2.3 Immediately after the first timed-accuracy test has been completed the invigilators must collect these answer sheets, after which a break of 15 minutes is allowed. Learners are not allowed to leave the examination room during this break.
2.4 The second paper is a 3 hour paper consisting of a timed-accuracy test of 10 minutes and the rest of the questions. After the second question paper has been handed out, learners must be given 10 minutes to read the instructions and the question paper and to prepare themselves for the timed-accuracy test. Typing paper must be inserted in the typewriters before the timed-accuracy test commences.
2.5 An experienced Typing teacher, not necessarily the learner’s typing teacher, must for the duration of the examination in Typing, be present in the examination room so that he or she can give the necessary instructions to the learners when to begin typing and when to stop. He or she may assist learners who experience problems with their typewriters (Such candidates must be allowed additional time equal to the time lost due to factors beyond their control). The teacher must adhere strictly to the rules and instructions applicable to the timed-accuracy test.
2.6 Chief invigilators and learner’s attention is drawn to the fact that it is imperative that a learner’s full examination numbers appear on each page of the timed-accuracy test as well as the answer sheets.
3. After completion of the examination in Typing, invigilators must, with the assistance of the principals, place the pages for the first timed-accuracy test and the second timed-accuracy test inside the cover of the answer books of each learner. It cannot be over-emphasised that this task must be carried out with the utmost care and accuracy in order to ensure that the correct timed-accuracy test pages are placed in each answer book.
4. Chief invigilators are to note that only ONE mark schedule for Typing will be provided.
5. Principals/centre managers must ensure that typewriters which are to be used for this examination are in good working order and that ribbons are in a satisfactory condition. This instruction must be strictly followed in order to avoid that learners submit work of a poor quality.
6. Similar arrangements are to be implemented in conducting the internal examination for Typing.
7. Should a power failure occur during the Typing examination, the following procedure should be followed:
7.1 Learners are to remain in the typing classroom until the power is restored. Learners may not talk to each other while waiting for the power to be reconnected. The time lost during the power failure is to be allowed as additional examination time.
7.2 IF, AFTER HALF AN HOUR THE POWER HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED,THE EXAMINATION IS TO BE CANCELLED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED ON A DATE AGREED UPON BY THE DEPARTMENT AND THE SCHOOL(S) INVOLVED.
7.3 The Directorate: Examinations is to be informed immediately of the power failure.
7.4 The work already completed by the learners is to be handed in and submitted to the Directorate: Examinations.
7.5 In case where two typing sessions take place during an examination, the above procedure applies to both sessions.
7.6 In order to help prevent the incidence of a power failure principals/centre managers should make the necessary arrangements that heavy electrical appliances (e.g. in Metalwork, Woodwork and Home Economics rooms) not be used for the duration of the Typing examination.
7.7 If a power failure occurs during the first session and the Typing examination of the first session is cancelled, principals/centre managers are to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that, before the second session starts there is no contact whatsoever between learners of the first session and those of the second session.
7.8 When a power failure occurs, the principal/centre manager should immediately inform the local authorities and ascertain, if possible, how long the power failure is likely to last.
7.9 All electrical equipment, wiring, extention leads, wall-plugs and wall sockets at the school should be inspected to ensure that it is in good working order. This will prevent a power failure caused by defective electrical equipment and installations.
