1. The WCED will offer the Level 4 assessment in October 2004 in accordance with the applicable rules, criteria and standards. The Directorate: Examinations will accept full responsibility for organising and administering the assessment and the Directorate: Curriculum Development will provide the necessary curriculum expertise.
2. All registered WCED Community Learning Centres (CLCs) are requested to enter their learners for assessment in the learning areas of their choice provided that the learners have completed all the unit standards in the learning areas concerned. Where possible all the learning area needs of the learners will be met. The Directorate: Examinations, however, reserves the right not to offer assessment in learning areas where there are too few entries.
3. The assessment counts 50% and the other 50% will come from a moderated CASS portfolio.
4. The timetable for the October 2004 assessment will be provided in due course.
5. Centre Managers are requested to complete one of the enclosed entry forms in respect of each learner at their centres who wishes to enter for the assessment. The entry form of a learner who is not available owing to illness or other unavoidable circumstances must be signed by the centre manager who must, however, indicate next to his or her signature that the learner was absent.
6. Entry type: Use the appropriate code to indicate whether the learner is from a departmental ( “Public” ) or an independent ( “Industry” ) adult learning centre.
7. Please note that no changes in learning areas will be allowed after the entries have been finalised. Entry forms must therefore be completed accurately and with the utmost care.
8. All completed entry forms in strict alphabetical order and Annexure A must reach the Directorate: Examinations by not later than Monday, 23 August 2004. No late entries will be accepted.
9. The upgraded table below replaces the one in Circular 0012/2004 in which the contact details of ABET curriculum advisors and particulars of assessment support for ABET Level 4, appear.
