1. Attached, according to the medium of instruction of the school, are examples of learning programmes, work schedules and lesson plans for Numeracy and Literacy: Afrikaans Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language, English Home Language and English First Additional Language. Xhosa Home Language and the Xhosa version of the Numeracy learning programme will be posted later.
2. These learning programmes, which have been developed by practising teachers, cover all the required learning outcomes and assessment standards for the particular learning area. Each school must produce its own learning programmes, taking into account the specific context of the school. For example, the language profile of learners and the barriers faced by learners must be reflected in the school’s planning.
3. Note that these documents are not WCED policy documents, but that they merely serve as examples to help teachers with their planning.
4. Also enclosed is a copy of the Multilingual Mathematics Dictionary for Grades R to 6 developed by the National Language Service to support the implementation of the RNCS.
