1. It is the responsibility of the Directorate: Curriculum Development to recommend suitable people for appointment as examiners in all subjects for the Senior Certificate examinations to the Head of Education. This includes the practical components of subjects such as Music, Art, Dance and Speech and Drama.
2. The moderation of the year's practical work, continuous assessment and orals in schools is, however, the responsibility of Curriculum Advisers at EMDCs and in the light of this, EMDCs are not permitted to appoint people as co-examiners for any subject of the Senior Certificate examination.
3. Should an EMDC require the services of an examiner for a practical examination, the Director may send details of the examination requirements to the Director: Curriculum Development and request that a person be appointed to conduct the examination. The EMDC may recommend a suitable examiner with appropriate experience, in which case full details must be provided to the Director: Curriculum Development. To ensure the development of the appropriate criteria, the latter will make sure that the examiner concerned is involved in a standard-setting exercise.
