Stellenbosch University (US), in collaboration with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) and the World Population Foundation (WPF), has developed a CD-Rom Life Orientation information package which is also available in hard copy format. The programme has been designed to correspond to the new FET Life Orientation learning outcomes for Grades 10 to 12, which will be implemented from 2006. This programme promotes knowledge, skills, values and attitudes which will enable learners to respond positively, effectively and responsibly to the challenges of life. |

Your school has been selected to participate in the pilot study for the research, which has been approved by the WCED Directorate: Research (see Annexure B) and the US ethics committee. |

As decided at the conference of 31 March to 3 April 2004, the pilot study will be conducted between 21 July 2004 and 23 September 2004. The necessary arrangements will be made with your school at least one week in advance. |

The materials (CD-Rom, educator’s manual, learners' workbook and video for parents) will be sent to the Life Orientation educators at the schools concerned on 30 June 2004. |

Principals of selected high schools are requested to complete the attached Annexure A and submit it to the project administrative officer, Ms DM Conradie (address on annexure), by no later than 30 June 2004. |
