1. In accordance with the monitoring protocol of 2003 which applies to both the Senior Certificate and the ABET level 4 examinations, the latter examinations will be monitored again this year as part of the quality assurance responsibilities of the Department of Education.
2. EMDC directors must delegate the responsibility for monitoring the ABET examinations to teams consisting of three officials. These teams must use the monitoring instrument ABET M2A: Monitoring Instrument for ABET Level 4 Examinations, supplied by UMALUSI.
3. During the examination period, the monitoring team should visit at least one ABET centre per week (i.e. a total of 3 visits) and report back to the delegated EMDC assessment representative on 7 June, 14 June and 21 June 2004.
4. The EMDC assessment representative must use the standard report format to collate the monitoring team's reports. The collated reports must be sent to the Examination Monitoring Co-ordinator (Mr T.J. Magwaca) on 9 June, 17 June and 23 June 2004.
5. Besides the intensive monitoring done for UMALUSI, EMDCs must use the monitoring instrument ABET M2B: Report on Monitoring of ABET Level 4 Examination to monitor at least 50% of all centres participating in the ABET examinations. This instrument can be used by all other officials who visit ABET examination centres.
