In terms of Section 43 of the SA Schools Act, 1996 (Act 84/1996) as amended (SASA) and Section 24 of the Adult Basic Education and Training Act, 2000 (Act 52/2000) (ABET Act) respectively, public schools and adult education centres must submit audited financial statements to the Department by no later than 30 June of each year. |

In order to ensure effective control and administration and to enable the Western Cape Education Department to keep a complete record of persons appointed as auditors by these institutions, principals and centre managers are requested to complete the attached survey form and send it by no later than 13 September 2004 to

Each educational institution must ascertain whether its auditor is registered with one of the professional bodies mentioned on the survey form, the members of which are regarded as registered auditors by the SASA and the ABET Act. |

Institutions making use of registered auditors must complete only part A of the form. Institutions making use of unregistered auditors, that is, persons used as auditors, but who are not registered with one of the professional institutions referred to in paragraph 3, must complete only Part B. |
