1. The revised Procedures for the Establishment and Election of Governing Bodies at Public Schools Regulations, 2017, as published in Provincial Gazette Extraordinary No. 7810 of 17 August 2017, are attached and came into effect on 18 August 2017. These procedures replace the Procedures for the Establishment and Election of Governing Bodies at Public Schools, published in Provincial Gazette Extraordinary No. 7352 of 06 February 2015.
2. As a transitional arrangement, a governing body at a public school which, at the commencement of these regulations, was validly constituted in terms of the Determination of the Procedures for the Establishment and Election of Governing Bodies at Public Schools, 2015, is regarded as being constituted in terms of these regulations.
3. A provincial electoral team, led by Mr Redewan Larney (tel. no. 021 467 2337), will be established to coordinate and monitor the election activities of the district and school electoral teams in the Western Cape.
4. Governing bodies are kindly requested to start preparing for elections by ensuring that all relevant documents are in order to be properly handed over to the newly elected governing body in 2018.
5. Please bring the contents of this circular and the attached regulations to the attention of all staff and governing body members.
