1. The Deworming Programme is a collaborative activity between the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Department of Health. Kindly visit the DBE website concerning the value of deworming and related issues.

2. The target population includes learners in Grade R to 7 who are currently in quintile 1 to 3 ordinary public schools and special public schools. Alternative arrangements will be made for those learners who are not present during the deworming day. Schools should contact the nurses concerning absent learners so that they can be dewormed at a later stage.

3. Deworming in schools will be done during the same period as the Human Papillomavirus Vaccination (HPV) Campaign from 16 February to 11 March 2016. It is important to note the following information:
3.1 Nurses will be responsible for a cluster of schools and will indirectly supervise the administering of the tablet. Nurses will hand tablets over to the principals and will be on site during deworming.
3.2 All deworming will be done by educators.
3.3 Principals are requested to send the attached consent forms to parents as well as the parent information letter. The parent consent form should be returned by the end of January 2016. Consent forms should be made available on demand during the deworming process. The principal must retain all consent forms for a period of five years.
3.4 Where parents have not provided consent, learners will not be dewormed.

4. Orientation will be cascaded to all educators in the targeted schools. All schools will receive a training package.

5. Your co-operation in this regard will be appreciated.
