The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has discussed the requests for substitute educators from schools. The number of requests for substitute appointments has grown substantially over the past few weeks. The WCED has therefore resolved that alternative arrangements to manage absenteeism, for whatever reason/s, be explored by districts in conjunction with the affected schools. |

District officials need to carefully consider the validity of a request before recommending substitute appointments beyond 14 November 2014. New applications for substitute appointments will not be approved where the appointment starts on or after 17 November 2014 and alternative arrangements must be explored to supervise learners. |

Exceptional cases must be discussed with the Director: Recruitment and Selection, Mr Alan Meyer at tel. 021 467 2661, before any appointments are made. |

Where such applications are submitted and prior approval was not granted the responsible institution will have to remunerate the educator/s itself. |
