The Western Cape Education Department invests significantly in ensuring the provision of infrastructure and education resources to enable optimal teaching and learning. It is important that School Management Teams (SMTs) and School Governing Bodies (SGBs) take care of the use and management of these facilities/resources.
In order to sustain departmental efforts and investment in our schools, it will be appreciated if SMTs and SGBs assist with the following:
| 1. | Ensure that infrastructure facilities are used for the intended purpose. Libraries/media centres in particular, are central to the Department’s efforts to improve literacy and numeracy and should be used optimally. |
| 2. | Ensure that a furniture inventory is kept, updated regularly and maximally utilised. |
| 3. | Furniture or equipment not in use should be reported to the District Office for possible assistance to schools where needs have been registered. |
| 4. | The proper recordkeeping, storage, issuing and collection of textbooks. |
