1. |
This circular serves to confirm the dates for the writing of the 2014 Annual National Assessments (ANA) from 16 to 19 September 2014, as indicated on the attached timetable. Failure to adhere to the prescribed dates and times will constitute an assessment irregularity. |
3. |
The entire cohort of Grades 7 and 8 learners will not be writing the ANA in 2014; a sample of learners in Grades 7 and 8 will be selected to write the ANA. These schools will be identified and informed in advance with regard to arrangements for the writing of the ANA. |
4. |
Schools must remember that the days on which the ANA are written are ordinary school days and that teaching and learning must resume immediately after each assessment has been completed. |
5. |
As this is a national assessment, monitoring will be undertaken by district officials, provincial officials as well as representatives from the Department of Basic Education (DBE). Note that monitors may only be allowed to monitor an assessment if they produce proof of identity and a letter authorising them to monitor on behalf of the office concerned. |
6. |
Marking and internal moderation of the ANA will be conducted at school level under the supervision of the school management team, and should be completed by 29 September 2014. School principals are required to ensure that the marking of the ANA test material is not conducted during the time that is scheduled for teaching and learning (class time). |
7. |
The capturing of the moderated ANA marks on the Centralised Education Information Management System (CEMIS) must be completed by 24 October 2014. Schools are requested to factor this into their planning. |
8. |
Education district officials and principals are kindly requested to bring the contents of this circular to the attention of staff, learners and parents. |
