1. The Code of Conduct for the Public Service is contained in Chapter 2 of the Public Service Regulations, 2001 (as amended). It is aimed at instilling and reinforcing appropriate values among all public servants, ensuring professional ethics and eradicating corruption in the public service.
2. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) requests all its employees appointed in terms of the Public Service Act to adhere to the principles contained in the Code of Conduct in order that we may provide an effective, efficient and professional service to our clients.
3. The Code of Conduct for the Public Service can be downloaded from the department’s website at http://wced.school.za and you are kindly requested to ensure that all public service personnel under your control have either been provided with a downloaded copy of the code of conduct or referred to the website.
4. Hard copies of the code of conduct in booklet form can also be requested from your district office who, in turn, will order them for you from the WCED Head Office.
5. Each head of institution, office, directorate or education district is kindly requested to certify that all public service personnel have either received a copy of the code of conduct or been referred to the code of conduct on the WCED’s website. This must be done by completing and returning the attached Annexure A to The Director: Human Resource Management, (For attention: Mr AM Shasha), Western Cape Education Department, Room 307, Grand Central Towers, Lower Parliament Street, Cape Town, 8001 by 7 December 2012.
