1. Enclosed is a copy of the final timetable for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examination of October - November 2012.

2. This timetable has been endorsed by the Heads of Education Committee and approved by the Council of Education Ministers.

3. The examination is scheduled to commence on 22 October 2012 and concludes on 28 November 2012.

4. Two examination sessions are scheduled for each day. The morning session will commence at 09:00 and the afternoon session will commence at 14:00.

5. Normal classes must continue until 12 October 2012, so as to ensure as much teaching time as possible. Principals of schools may choose to allow the Grade 12 learners of 2012 to study at home from 15 October 2012 in order to prepare for the NSC examination.

6. With regard to the admission of candidates to the examination room, invigilators must ensure that every candidate produces his or her admission letter and identity document. Invigilators must enforce this admission requirement rigorously. However, a candidate who fails to produce the required document(s) on entering the examination room must not be prevented from writing that particular examination. The candidate concerned must produce the required document(s) the following day. Should that candidate fail to do so, then an irregularity must be declared and the procedure pertaining to irregularities mustbe followed.

7. The chief invigilator must ensure that candidates enter the examination venue 35 minutes before the official starting time of the examination session. This time must be used as follows:
7.1 The first 25 minutes must be used to settle the candidates in their correct seats, to distribute question papers, collect cellphones, etc.
7.2 During the remaining 10 minutes, candidates must be given an opportunity to read through the question paper.
7.3 No writing or making of notes is allowed at any stage during the 35 minutes. Any infringement of this rule will constitute an irregularity.
7.4 Candidates must finish writing at the time indicated on the examination timetable.

8. Representatives from WCED, Umalusi and the Department of Basic Education will monitor the examination processes at the examination centres.

9. Principals are requested to report all timetable clashes to the WCED. Such reports must be submitted in writing by Friday, 08 June 2012 to the following address:
