BRIEF SUMMARY: | Schools may apply to close on 28 and 29 April 2011 and make up the time on other days |
SUBJECT: | SCHOOL DAYS FALLING ON 28 AND 29 APRIL 2011 |

A number of school principals have indicated that they would like to close their schools on 28 and 29 April 2011 as these two days fall between public holidays on 27 April 2011 and 1 May 2011. |
| 2. |
Schools must apply to their district director if they wish to close on these days. The application must indicate when teaching time will be made up and be accompanied by the school timetables to be followed on these days.

The following are examples of options which schools may wish to use:
- Starting the 2011 academic year two days earlier, i.e. on 13 January 2011 for teachers and 17 January 2011 for learners
- Ending the first or second school term two days later
- Using Saturdays

Should schools wish to close on 28 and 29 April 2011, they must submit applications in writing to their respective district directors by 5 November 2010. |
