BRIEF SUMMARY: | Appointment of additional public service staff for short periods at education institutions |
SUBJECT: | APPOINTMENT OF ADDITIONAL PUBLIC SERVICE STAFF FOR SHORT PERIODS AT EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS |

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has, over the past few years, approved certain appointments of additional public service support staff for short periods, in terms of the provisions in Part III, Section G of the Public Service Regulations of 2001. The costs associated with these additional appointments were accommodated within the WCED's personnel budget. |

It must be noted, however, that the provision of additional public service support staff as substitutes is not a legislated prescript, as is the case with the provision of school teachers. |

Unfortunately, as a result of current budgetary constraints and the need to prioritise spending on staff, the WCED hereby notifies all heads of education institutions that, with effect from 1 October 2010, no applications for additional public service support staff (excluding contract appointments) will be considered. |
