This circular follows Assessment Management Minute 0019/2009, which requested schools to submit comments on the timetable of the October-December 2010 National Senior Certificate examinations. As a result of comments received from provincial education departments, national stakeholders in education and religious organisations, the Department of Basic Education amended the timetable that was sent with the above-mentioned minute. |

The examinations for Computer Applications Technology (CAT) Speed Test (Optional), Computer Applications Technology Paper 1 (Practical) and Information Technology (IT) Paper 1 (Practical) will be administered on 13, 14 and 15 October 2010 respectively. |

Candidates who are not offering CAT and/or IT must attend school on 13, 14 and 15 October 2010. |

Normal teaching and learning must continue until 15 October 2010, so as to ensure as much teaching time as possible. Grade 12 learners of 2010 may be allowed to study at home from 18 October 2010, to prepare for the NSC examinations. |

The main examinations commence on 25 October 2010 and end on 3 December 2010. |

Two examination sessions are scheduled for each day. The morning session will commence at 09:00 and the afternoon session will commence at 14:00. |

With regard to the admission of candidates to the examination room, invigilators must ensure that every candidate produces his or her admission letter, as well as his or her identity document. Invigilators must enforce this admission requirement rigorously. However, a candidate who fails to produce the required document(s) on entering the examination room must not be prevented from writing that particular examination. The candidate concerned must produce the required document(s) the following day. Should that candidate fail to produce the required outstanding document(s) on the following day, then an irregularity must be declared and the normal procedure pertaining to irregularities must be followed. |

Principals must inform candidates that the National Senior Certificate supplementary examinations will be conducted in February-March 2011, and must not be confused with the May-June 2011 Senior Certificate Examinations. |

Enclosed is a copy of the final timetable for the 2010 National Senior Certificate Examinations. |

Principals are requested to report all timetable clashes to the WCED. Such reports must be submitted in writing by Friday, 14 May 2010 to the following address:

Principals are required to inform all candidates writing the National Senior Certificate examinations that they must wear their school uniforms when writing each examination, and that they must be available until the last day of the school term (10 December 2010), in case it should be necessary, for whatever reason, to reschedule the writing of a particular examination paper.
