PROGRESSION AND PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADES 1 - 9

The National Policy on Assessment and Qualifications for Schools in the GET Band (Government Gazette No.29626 of 2007) stipulates the requirements for progression in Grades1-8, and promotion in Grade 9.
|

|
WCED Circular 0030/2009 stated that the new progression and promotion requirements, which were announced in Circular 0018/2009, would be postponed until 2010. It was also stated that Government Gazette 29626 was in the process of being reviewed.

Please note that the current progression and promotion requirements, as stipulated in Government Gazette No.29626, will be used in 2010.

DISCONTINUATION OF THE COMMON TASKS FOR ASSESSMENT (CTAs) IN GRADE 9
|

|
Government Gazette No. 32836: Implementation of the recommendations of the task team appointed to review the implementation of the National Curriculum Statement Grades R - 12, states that the CTAs in Grade 9 have been discontinued with immediate effect.

|
In place of the Grade 9 CTAs, schools in the Western Cape will continue with their own internal programmes of assessment and conduct their own internal examinations in all learning areas in Grade 9.

|
The Grade 9 internal examinations to be conducted in Term 4 must constitute 25% of the total mark for each learning area.
|

|
The formal assessments in Grade 9 conducted during Terms 1 - 3 will constitute 75% of the total mark per learning area.

|
Revised electronic versions of the Grade 9 mark list will soon be made available to all schools on the CEMIS website, under the heading Reports and Assessments.
