In order to inform schools of the outcome of their applications to increase or reduce their number of grades or subjects, or to change their language of instruction, it has become necessary to change the existing process. The new process will ensure that the schools applying will be able to finalise their planning for the coming academic year at the start of the fourth school term. |
2.1 |
This circular applies to all applications to increase or reduce the number of grades or subjects, or to change the language of instruction, in Grades R to 12 at ordinary public schools, including new schools. |
2.2 |
When a school applies for changes to be made over a period of time, e.g. introduction of Grade 10 in 2011, Grade 11 in 2012 and Grade 12 in 2013, a new application must be completed each year. This will enable the WCED to determine each year the specific school's allocations with regard to staffing, norms and standards funding, and learning and teaching support material (LTSM) for the following year. |
2.3 |
An application to increase or reduce the number of grades or subjects, or to change the language of instruction must be discussed with the circuit team manager and all the consequences must be considered. |
2.4 |
Where a school will not be offering a certain grade or subject in the future, arrangements must be made with the relevant IMG manager to transfer the excess equipment and LTSM to where it is needed. |
2.5 |
The principal must submit the application (on Part A of the WCED 092 application form) to the school's IMG manager by 30 April of the preceding year. |
2.6 |
The WCED will inform each school of the outcome of its application by 31 August. |
2.7 |
Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. |
