1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) wishes to thank all educators for their diligence and hard work during the past couple of months. Your efforts towards quality education are appreciated.
2. It has come to the attention of the WCED that certain organisations with political affiliations and aspirations target schools from time-to-time to promote the organisations' agendas and programmes.
3. To ensure that educators can perform their duties undisturbed, and that learners get the full benefit of the education offered by the school, it is of the utmost importance that no activity that infringes on the delivery of the curriculum or disturbs the school programme be allowed. Schools are centres of teaching and learning and as institutions that serve the learners and the community, they must not be used to promote non-curriculum issues or matters that do not form part of the school programme during formal school hours.
4. Therefore, with immediate effect, no activities that are not directly linked to the curriculum or school programme will be allowed on school premises during school hours.
5. Principals and district officials are requested to ensure that no activity that infringes on the curriculum or school programme is allowed at a school during instructional time. This includes political or party-political affiliated activities.
6. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all concerned.
7. Your co-operation will be appreciated.
