Adult Education and Training (AET) Level 4 is the first qualification on the National Qualifications Framework and provides adult learners with pathways to the interim General Education and Training Certificate (GETC). |

The GETC ABET Level 4 qualification used in 2009 has been phased out and has been replaced by the interim GETC. |

This interim qualification in ABET Level 4 has been registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) as number 64309, and was signed by the Minister of Education on 30 June 2009. |

The date of implementation of this interim GETC in ABET Level 4 is January 2010 and the last date for achievement is 26 November 2015. |

Revised unit standards and site-based assessment in ABET Level 4 |

In addition to the above, the ABET Level 4 unit standards have been revised and aligned to the interim GETC. |
2.2 |
The site-based assessment (SBA) tasks form part of a developmental process aimed at enhancing the level of teaching and learning in the classroom. Teachers are therefore encouraged not to teach the SBAs, but to use them for purposes of assessment only. |

Arrangements have been made for the orientation of AET curriculum advisers, learning area specialists and ABET Level 4 teachers on the interim qualification and revised unit standards. You are referred to Curriculum Minute 0020/2009 for the dates and training venues. |
