1.1 |
The CTA is developed by the national Department of Education (DoE). In all learning areas the CTA consists of performance-based tasks (Section A) and pen-and-paper tasks (Section B). Both components are compulsory for a learner to be resulted at Grade 9 level.
1.2 |
The CTA in Grade 9 counts 25% of the final assessment and constitutes the formal assessment task for Term 4.
1.3 |
The Department of Education sets the national timetable for the administration of Section B of the CTA.
1.4 |
Section B of the CTA must be conducted under controlled conditions and in compliance with the national timetable.
1.5 |
Due to the absence of national policy on the conduct of the CTA, the WCED identified a need for a regulatory framework to ensure consistency in the management, conduct and administration of the CTA across the province.
1.6 |
The circular and the Regulatory Framework for the CTA are based on stipulations in the policy document, National policy on the conduct, administration and management of the National Senior Certificate: A qualification at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) in Gazette 30048.
2. |
Principals and managers must ensure that every official involved in the CTAs has a clear understanding of the contents of the Regulatory Framework attached to this circular as Addendum A.
3. |
Non-compliance to this framework will be regarded as an assessment irregularity and will be dealt with as such.
5. |
Your co-operation in this regard will be appreciated.
