Attached to this circular is the list of prescribed works for Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa, Sesotho and Setswana that will be examined by the WCED in June 2009 in the Senior Certificate examinations. (Annexure A)

Candidates who wish to write other languages may request the lists of prescribed works from the Directorate: Assessment Management by contacting Mr TJ Magwaca at telephone no. 021 467 2626 or e-mail address: tmagwaca@pgwc.gov.za.

Closing date for registration for the May-June 2009 examinations

2.1 |
The closing date for registration for the May-June 2009 examination is Tuesday, 30 September 2008. Candidates can register at the community learning centres or at WCED call centre, 2nd floor Grand Central Towers, Lower Plein Street, Cape Town. Community learning centre managers and candidates are requested to adhere strictly to this date.

The registration dates for the 2010 and 2011 examinations will be communicated later.

List of subjects to be examined in 2009

At a meeting of the Heads of Education Departments Committee, it was agreed that the May-June Senior Certificate examinations would be limited to only certain subjects. The list of Senior Certificate subjects that will be examined in the examinations in May-June 2009 is attached as Annexure B.

Part-time candidates must note that they will not be permitted to offer a subject that has a practical component.

Principals, centre managers and WCED officials are requested to bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all candidates who wish to write the June 2009 Senior Certificate examinations.
