1. The first National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, based on the National Curriculum Statements (NCS) will be administered in Grade 12 in November 2008.
2. The Inter-Provincial Examination Committee (IPEC) compiled the national examination timetable after consultation with all education stakeholders and religious organisations. This timetable was endorsed by the Heads of Education Departments Committee (HEDCOM) and finally approved by the Council of Education Ministers.
3. Schools will observe that the National Senior Certificate examination for 2008 is scheduled to commence later in the year compared to the previous Senior Certificate examinations. This is in response to the Minister of Education’s request that schools must use the extra time available for teaching and learning. Schools are requested to continue with revision and other examination preparations until the 24th October 2008.
4. Two examination sessions are scheduled for each day. The morning session will commence at 09:00 and the afternoon session will commence at 14:00.
5. Principals and centre managers must please inform the candidates that the National Senior Certificate supplementary examinations will be conducted in February/March 2009, and should not be confused with the May/June 2009 Senior Certificate examination.
6. Enclosed is a copy of the final timetable for the 2008 National Senior Certificate examinations.

Principals and centre managers are requested to report all timetable clashes to the WCED. Such reports must be submitted in writing before Friday, 16 May 2008 to the following address:

8. Principals and centre managers are required to inform all candidates that they must be available until the last day of the school term (05 December 2008), should it, for any reason, be necessary to reschedule the writing of a particular examination paper.
