1. Introduction

The national Department of Education has announced amendments to the January 2007 Subject Assessment Guidelines (SAG) for Life Orientation, Consumer Studies and Hospitality Studies in Circulars S7, S9 and S10 respectively. These amendments provided in the accompanying addendum are effective immediately.


2. Amendments to Subject Assessment Guidelines - Life Orientation
2.1 The mark allocation for the five formal tasks for Life Orientation (paragraph 3.3.1 of the SAG) has been revised to allow for quarterly reporting on the Physical Education Task (Task 5). This will allow the performance in the Physical Education Task to be recorded and reported in each term.
2.2 The revised mark allocations for Life Orientation in Grades 10 - 12 are provided in the accompanying amendment document.

3. Amendments to Subject Assessment Guidelines - Consumer Studies

The accompanying addendum for Consumer Studies reflects the changes in the SAG regarding the format of the examination papers and the Practical Assessment Task.


4. Amendments to the Subject Assessment Guidelines - Hospitality Studies

The accompanying amendment to the SAG for Hospitality Studies deals with the Practical Assessment Task.


5. Principals are kindly requested to inform all relevant teachers of the contents of this circular.
