This circular must be read in conjunction with the Subject Assessment Guidelines (SAG) for History (January 2007). The national Department of Education has amended the format of the History examinations for Grade 11 and 12 in Circular E2 of 2007.

Grade 11 and 12 History
|
2.1 |
The Grade 11 History examination will consist of two papers of 2 hours each. The mark allocation for each paper will be 150 marks. This amends the SAG which indicates that there will be two papers - Paper 1 (225 marks) and Paper 2 (75 marks).

The Grade 12 History examination will consist of two papers of 3 hours each. The mark allocation for each paper will be 150 marks. The total of the two papers is thus 300 marks.

The examinations for History in Grade 11 and 12 will consist of source-based questions and extended writing on prescribed content.

Appendix A provides the content and format of the Grade 11 History Paper 1 and Paper 2 question papers that will be written by public schools in November 2007. Independent schools that wish to write the Grade 11 examination must inform the Director: Examinations Administration.

The content and format of the Grade 12 History Paper 1 and Paper 2 question papers are provided in Appendix B.
