The National Policy on Assessment and Qualifications for schools in the General Education and Training Band (GET) must be implemented in all schools with immediate effect.
3. |
This policy applies to Grades R - 9 and provides a framework for assessment and qualifications for all public and private schools and community-based sites with learners registered in the GET band. It consolidates assessment provisions contained in the National Curriculum Statement Grades R-9 (Schools) (NCS) and should therefore be read together with the NCS.
4. |
This policy repeals the Assessment Policy in the GET band, Grade R-9 and ABET of 1998 and the Framework for the Assessment and Promotion of Learners in Grade 9: Interim policy, 2003. It integrates and consolidates recording and reporting provisions that are contained in the National protocol on Assessment, 2005.
5. |
In the course of the second term of 2007, the National Department of Education will provide schools with printed copies of this document as well as copies of the Learning Area Assessment Guidelines (LAAG) for the GET. The Foundation Phase Assessment Guideline will also be sent to schools as soon as the document is ready.
6. |
This policy document is currently only available in English, but Afrikaans copies will be sent to schools later in the year.
7. |
Kindly ensure that all officials and Grades R to 9 teachers familiarise themselves with the content and implications of this policy document.
8. |
The document is available on the assessment web site.
9. |
To support implementation, EMDC assessment co-ordinators will be arranging workshops for teachers.
