Aphasic and dyslectic candidates

Candidates encountering a mathematical barrier to learning, such as dyscalculia

Candidates who experience the above barriers to learning will be accommodated as follows:

A deaf candidate may offer only one official language, and at First Additional level, provided that another subject from Group B is offered in place of the second official language. This concession will only apply if such a candidate complies with the promotion requirements as contemplated in paragraph 11(1) (e) of the National Senior Certificate: A qualification at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Aphasic and dyslectic candidates may offer only one official language, and at First Additional level, provided that another subject from Group B is offered in place of the second official language.

Candidates who encounter a mathematical barrier to learning, such as dyscalculia, may be exempted from offering Mathematical Literacy or Mathematics, provided that another subject from Group B is offered in place of Mathematical Literacy or Mathematics. This concession will only apply if such a candidate complies with the promotion requirements as contemplated in paragraph 11(1) (e) of the National Senior Certificate: A qualification at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Candidates currently in Grades 10 and 11 will only be considered for the above concessions if they have applied directly to the Western Cape Education Department's Directorate: Examinations before 5 October 2007.

From 2008, applications for the above concessions must be made within two months of a learner having entered Grade 10.

All requests must be backed up by evaluations of barriers to learning conducted by the EMDC support structures.

6. |
The final decision for the granting of a concession lies with the Head of Education.
