The Independent Examination Board (IEB) will be responsible for the internal assessment and final examination of these two subjects. Candidates offering these subjects must, as part of their normal registration for the NSC at the school which they attend, also register with the IEB for the conduct of the assessment.
2.3 |
Maritime Economics and Nautical Science will replace, respectively, Maritime Studies A (Shore-based) and Maritime Studies B (Sea-going), which are part of the current Senior Certificate Examinations.
2.4 |
The offering of Maritime Economics and Nautical Science will be restricted to schools connected with the maritime industry and which have the appropriate infrastructure and equipment.
2.5 |
Learners at approved schools may offer either Maritime Economics or Nautical Science in terms of the provision that a maximum of one subject assessed by an accredited examinations body other than the Department of Education may be included in the seven-subject package of an NSC candidate. Learners who wish to offer both Maritime Economics and Nautical Science as part of their NSC programme may do so, provided that one of these two subjects is offered as an eighth subject for the NSC.
