1. An increase in the use of the facilities available in offices for the preparation and eating of food has been noted. If these facilities are used before the start of an official workday or during lunch breaks, it is acceptable, provided that the process is completed during these periods, the kitchens are left tidy and the crockery and utensils are washed up. The only exception with regard to leaving used crockery and cutlery in the kitchen is when prior arrangements have been made with the Food Services Aid (tea lady) for the washing-up to be done.
2. It is unacceptable for food to be prepared or bought and eaten during work hours, and this practice will no longer be allowed. The preparation of food during teatimes is also unacceptable, as it frequently results in the 15 minutes allowed for teatime being exceeded.
3. Through circulars sent out by the Directorate: Logistical Services, the preparation of food in offices using toasters or microwave ovens has already been explicitly prohibited. This practice must cease immediately. Besides the fire hazard or risk of electrical overloading, it could also create the wrong impression if clients from outside visit and the offices smell of food.
4. The co-operation of every staff member is expected in this regard.
