Approval has been granted for the increase of the following bursaries with retrospective effect from 1 April 2005:

The maximum boarding bursaries payable to needy learners in hostels attached to public ordinary schools increased from R3 850-00 to R4 000-00 per learner per annum
|
1.2 |
|
The maximum transport and private boarding bursaries payable to needy learners in the West Coast & Winelands, South Cape & Karoo and Breede River & Overberg districts increased from R880-00 to R933-00 per learner per annum
N.B. These bursaries are calculated according to the approved means test and criteria set out in Circulars 0143/1998 of 6 November 1998 and 0029/2001 of 13 March 2001.

Approval has also been granted for the increase of the following personnel subsidies with retrospective effect from 1 April 2005:

The personnel subsidy payable to public schools with an enrolment figure of fewer than 201 learners for the purchase of administrative/cleaning services increased from R253-00 to R268-00 per learner per annum
|
2.2 |
|
Personnel subsidy payable to public hostels with an enrolment figure of fewer than 50 hostel dwellers for the purchase of nutriment/cleaning services increased from R3 500-00 to R3 710-00 per learner per annum

The arrears in respect of the already approved boarding, transport and private boarding bursary applications and the purchase of personnel with effect from 1 April 2005 will be paid accordingly.
