Schools and officials have been informed of the WCED’s electronic communication strategy, electronic mailing lists, e-postmaster system and e-mail policy by means of Circulars 0045/2001 of 15 May 2001, 0155/2001 of 23 November 2001, 0132/2002 of 15 October 2002 and 0165/2003 of 8 August 2003.

The management and retention of e-mail is subject to the provisions of the National Archives and Records Service of South Africa Act, 1996 (Act 43/1996) as amended, and the regulations promulgated in terms of this Act.

The existing e-postmaster system and e-mail policy have been revised and the attached policy (Annexure A) are effective immediately. This policy provide guidance and assistance to WCED officials in order to comply with the legislative requirements pertaining to the handling of electronic records.

An updated list of the contact particulars of the WCED e-postmasters and matters on which they can be contacted will soon be made available to users.

This circular replaces Circulars 0155/2001 of 23 November 2001, 0132/2002 of 15 October 2002 and 0165/2003 of 8 August 2003.
