NOTICE REGARDING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CIRCULAR 0008/2004 OF 6 FEBRUARY 2004

Notice is hereby given that the budget prescriptions for public schools as published in the Government Gazette No 6103 of 23 January 2004 (Circular 0008/2004) must be implemented with immediate effect. However, as the 2004 school budgets should already have been finalised, these prescriptions will, therefore, only be applied for the 2005 school budget onwards.

1. In accordance with Section 38(1) of the South African Schools Act, 1996 (Act 84/1996) as amended, a governing body of a public school must prepare an annual budget showing the estimated income and expenditure of the school for the following financial year in accordance with prescriptions determined by the Member of the Executive Council (MEC).
2. The latest prescriptions (copies attached) have been determined by the MEC and were published in Provincial Gazette No 6103 of 23 January 2004.
3. You may contact the School-based Management Team at your Education Management and Development Centre (EMDC) for assistance in respect of compliance with the above-mentioned budget prescriptions.
4. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all persons concerned and parents.
