1. Since 1996, schools under the jurisdiction of the WCED that offered languages that were not examined by the WCED have had those languages examined by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB). The WCED conducted these examinations on behalf of certain schools at a cost that was not recovered from the schools concerned. Due to financial constraints, the WCED must now utilise the examinations of other provincial examination departments (PEDs) wherever possible instead of the IEB examinations.
2. Below is a list of the languages concerned:

  • isiZulu First Language HG & SG

  • isiZulu Second & Third Languages HG & SG

  • Xitsonga First Language HG & SG

  • Tshivenda First Language HG & SG

  • Setswana Second Language HG & SG

  • Portuguese HG & SG

  • Spanish HG & SG

3. Please ensure that your candidates for the Senior Certificate Examinations for 2004 offering any of the above-mentioned languages are following the correct syllabus and study the correct prescribed books as indicated on the attached lists.
