1. The common timetable for the summative assessment for ABET level 3 learners in October-November 2004 is enclosed.
1.1 The assessment commences on 25 October 2004 and ends on 9 November 2004. Each learning area will be written between 18:00 and 20:30. This assessment is provided by the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) in order to assist learners to develop the skills needed for writing the level 4 examinations. Centres are therefore requested to adhere to the timetable and to conduct the examination in the same way as for level 4.
1.2 For administrative purposes, it is important that centre managers should be at the centres before the commencement and also at the end of each assessment session.
1.3 Should the assessment be conducted on the premises of a mainstream school, the centre manager must make prior arrangements for the use of the strongroom, the administration building, classrooms, ablution facilities, etc.
1.4 Centres must provide all their candidates and educators with the timetable immediately to enable them to make their final preparations for the summative assessment.
1.5 Centre managers must remind all their candidates that they will have to produce their identity documents and admission letters before the commencement of each assessment session.
2. The guidelines to be used for this assessment are practically the same as those used in 2002, but the total number of marks for each question paper will be 80. The final summative mark of 20 will be derived from the common examination.
3. You are requested to wish all candidates well for the assessment on behalf of the WCED.
