1. This circular supplements Circulars 82/2002 and 0129/2003 of 11 July 2002 and 28 May 2003 respectively.
2. Attached, in response to a need, are the following basic generic job descriptions developed in respect of public service staff posts at Public ordinary and ELSEN schools :
3. The above-mentioned job descriptions must form the basis of specific job descriptions to be drawn up for the posts concerned at each institution. These job descriptions must, however, be adapted in accordance with the unique circumstances and environment of the institution and, most importantly, in consultation with the specific post incumbents.
4. Please note that the information to be given in the “Standards” column (Quality and/or quantity) needs to be determined and completed by the line manager and the post incumbent during the consultation process.
5. The WCED trust that this document will enhance the understanding of job descriptions, which form the basis of the new Staff Performance Management and Development System.
6. Heads of educational institutions who have not yet submitted the certificate confirming the completion of all job descriptions at their educational institutions and/or who wish to amend existing job descriptions, must complete the attached Appendix A and forward it to the Job Description Officer, Mr G Fortuin, fax 021 467 2883 or e-mail, Gary Fortuin at gfortuin@pgwc.gov.za , by no later than 31 August 2004.
