1. The WCED’s policy regarding the employment of office-based educators on a fixed-term contract makes provision for the appointment of such educators on a contract basis for a maximum period of six months. These contracts cannot be renewed or extended but new contracts can be entered into if the need exists. The post level at which these contract appointments are made is determined by the duties and responsibilities assigned to the employee appointed on contract.
2. An employee may therefore be appointed on a post level/grading lower than, but not higher than, that of the substantive post against which the contract appointment is made.
3. The post level of contract appointments of office-based educators will be determined as follows:
3.1 A committee will be established to determine the post level/grading of the appointment. The grading will be based on the duties and responsibilities to be assigned to the employee concerned.
3.2 The committee will consist of the chief director and the director of the directorate where the appointment will be made, together with representatives of the Directorate: Personnel Management (Educators).
