The focus for the WCED in 2003 will be access to literacy and numeracy, as well as the acquisition of a qualification. |

The WCED will support the assessment of levels 2 and 3 in 2003. |

Level 2 will focus on the fundamentals, Language, Literacy and Communication as well as Numeracy. |

Level 3 will focus on the fundamentals as well as the core learning areas. (Arts and Culture, Economics and Management Sciences, Human and Social Sciences, Life Orientation, Natural Sciences and Technology) |

Continuous assessment constitutes 80% of the total mark for levels 2 and 3. All evidence from CASS should be placed in a portfolio. |

The learner portfolio should contain a minimum of four items. |

|
The external assessment for level 2 will be in the form of a common task for assessment (CTA). This CTA will consist of a variety of tasks that can be carried out at the learner’s own pace. The CTA will constitute 20 % of the total marks for level 2. |

An externally set common examination will be conducted for level 3. The examination, constituting 20% of the total, will be internally administered and marked. Moderation will be done by the EMDC officials. |
