Outcomes-based education was phased into Grade 10 in 2003 and will be introduced in Grade 11 in 2004. |

Transition guideline documents which will include a generic section to support the transition of learners from Grades 9 and 10 in 2003 to Grades 10 and 11 in 2004 as well as subject specific guidance for teaching Grades 10 and 11 in 2004, will be provided to schools shortly. All educators are requested to study these documents which must be regarded as an introduction to teaching in an outcomes-based system, and provide guidance in respect of changing educational practice in Grades 10 and 11 in 2004. |

Schools must collect support documents from their EMDCs for subjects taken by few learners. (See appendix for list.) |

Principals are reminded of the promotion guidelines contained in Circular 119/2003. |

EMDCs will contact schools regarding subject specific workshops to discuss the Transition Guidelines and are urged to consult the WCED Curriculum Development website (at http://curriculum.wcape.school.za ) for further support. Educators are also referred to the WCED OBE compact disk, which gives guidance in terms of an outcomes based approach to teaching. |
