The objective of the booklet1, Basic Guidelines for Professional Conduct in the Workplace, which was launched in May 2003, is to instil and reinforce appropriate and common values in all employees of the Western Cape Provincial Administration in order to enable them to render an effective, efficient and professional service to the people of the Western Cape.

This booklet was developed as a practical basic guide to professional conduct and service excellence and not as a set of rules or a rigid policy document. |

These guidelines are applicable to public service staff only and you are requested to give each of these staff members in your directorate/EMDC/educational institution a copy of the enclosed booklet. For more details with regard to the Code of Conduct for Educators, please refer to Chapter 4, Pages 4-9 and 4-11 of the legislation for South African Council for Educators, 1999. |

Each head of a directorate, an EMDC or an educational institution must please certify that all public service personnel under his/her control have received a copy of the booklet and understand its contents by submitting a completed Annexure A to: The Director: Personnel Management (Public Service) (For attention: Mr BG Jacobs), Room 10-19, Grand Central Towers, Lower Parliament Street, Cape Town, 8001, by no later than 12 February 2004. |
