The Western Cape Education Department would like to thank all schools that participated in the provincial and national heritage competitions for their support and enthusiasm.

The provincial competition was a success. We would like especially to thank the Senior Choir of Sarepta Primary for their wonderful singing at the opening of the competition. The winners of the various categories at the provincial competition went on to participate in the national event which was held from 21 - 24 September in Cape Town.

The learners of the Western Cape again did well at national level, particularly in the visual art, writing and speech sections.

We would like to congratulate all the winners, both provincial and national. The list of winners is attached.  Special congratulations go to Angy Hendricks, of Point High School, Mossel Bay who, with learners from the other eight provinces, will be a youth ambassador to Mali in January 2004.

Next year is the celebration of ten years of our South African democracy. For this reason, we would like to encourage schools to make a special effort to enter for the heritage competition in 2004.
