Attached is a progression schedule for use in Grades 7 and 8. |

Also attached is a promotion schedule for Grade 9 according to a national format. To assist teachers, the WCED Directorate: Examinations will provide registered schools with promotion schedules including preprinted names and numbers of all Grade 9 learners registered at a school. |

Language, Literacy and Communication |

The codes for the different languages must be indicated individually on both schedules. |

The official WCED position is that learners are allowed to offer more than one primary language at Grade 9 level. |

As a further clarification of the Grade 9 promotion requirements and to assist teachers in making a promotion decision in the LLC learning area, the guideline is given that Grade 9 learners should offer at least two languages and obtain an “achieved” rating in one of the languages offered. |

The Grade 9 promotion schedule is also be available in electronic (Excel) format on the WCED Curriculum Development website at http://curriculum.wcape.school.za/. The form can be found on the Resources page of the Assessment (General) site1. The EMDC assessment co-ordinators will advise schools on the use of the electronic version upon request. Feedback on the electronic process can be given to them as well.
