Attached is a generic summary recording sheet as an example of the sheet which is to be used in each learning area offered in Grade 9. |

EMDCs will inform schools of the dates and the arrangements for Grade 9 moderation.

Prior to the start of the Grade 9 moderation process, the learners’ names and CASS marks must be entered on the summary recording sheet. To assist teachers, the Directorate: Examinations will supply registered schools with hard copies of summary recording sheets with the names and numbers of all Grade 9 learners registered at a school preprinted on them.

The procedure for filling in the summary recording sheets is as follows: |
4.1.1 |

Enter the name of the learning area in the space provided. |
4.1.2 |
|
Enter the outcomes addressed by a form of assessment in the appropriate space, e.g. SO 1, 3 and 5. |
4.1.3 |
|
Enter the form of assessment. (Refer to Circular 0004/2003 and the accompanying Senior Phase Continuous Assessment Guidelines for the forms of assessment recommended for each learning area.) |
4.1.4 |
|
Enter the mark attained for the form of assessment. |
4.1.5 |
|
Follow the procedure in 4.1.2 to 4.1.4 for each form of assessment. |
4.1.6 |
|
Add the scores of all the forms of assessment used in the learning area and express it as a total out of 100. |
4.1.7 |
|
Scale the total out of 100 down to a total out of 75. |
4.2.1 |
|
Enter the Section A mark. The Section A maximum marks are different for each learning area. |
4.2.2 |
|
Enter the Section B mark. The Section B maximum marks are different for each learning area. |
4.2.3 |
|
Add the Section A and B columns to obtain the total mark for the CTA. |
4.2.4 |
|
Scale the total mark for the CTA down to a mark out of 25. |
4.3.1 |
|
Add the CASS mark out of 75 and the CTA mark out of 25 to obtain a mark out of 100 (a percentage). |
4.3.2 |
|
Enter the appropriate code (1-4) in the next column. Please refer to Circular 111/2003 for the descriptors and percentage ranges attached to codes. |

An electronic (Excel) version of the record sheet is available on the Curriculum Development website at http://curriculum.wcape.school.za/ on the Resources page of the Assessment (General) site1. This Excel program automatically adds and scales down marks. The EMDC assessment co-ordinators will advise schools on the use of the electronic version on request. Feedback on the electronic process can be given to them as well.

In November 2003 the WCED Directorate: Examinations will provide schools with a computerised marksheet for the purpose of centralised data capturing. This sheet will make provision for only the total CASS (out of 75) and CTA (out of 25) marks per learning area for each learner. These sheets will be accompanied by instructions on how to complete them. |
