1. The WCED announced its participation in Scheme A of the Subsidised Motor Transport Scheme by means of Circular No. 95/2000, dated 21 July 2000. At that stage it was a workable solution to the shortage of official transport as the Department of Transport could not keep up with the demand for vehicles. Furthermore, the difference at that time between the cost of subsidising a vehicle and the cost of running and maintaining a GG vehicle of the same class was minimal.
2. However, the cost of subsidising vehicles has since increased dramatically, whilst the cost of running and maintaining a GG vehicle has decreased. The WCED has therefore decided that no further applications for subsidised vehicles will be considered.
3. The following officials may be contacted for more particulars:
Mr V.R. Gardner, tel. no 021 467 2789
Mr M. de Lange, tel. no 021 467 2797
4. Kindly bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all concerned.
