1. Schools and officials were informed in Circulars 0045/2001 of 15 May 2001, 155/2001 of 23 November 2001 and 0065/2002 of 7 August 2002 of the electronic communication strategy, electronic mailing lists and e-postmaster system of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED).
2. This WCED e-postmaster system which will enable schools and officials of the WCED (also known as WCED e-postmasters) to communicate with one another via e-mail, has been completed and is ready for use. This means that e-mail identities have been created for each of the functional units in the WCED and that structures have been established for the processing of e-mail to these addresses. Schools may therefore communicate with WCED e-postmasters in future. However, due cognisance must be taken of the WCED e-postmaster policy which is explained in the attached Annexure A.
3. The contact particulars of the WCED e-postmasters and the matters about which they can be contacted appear on the attached list (Annexure B). A regular updated version of this list will be kept on the WCED web page at

http://wced.wcape.gov.za/home/contacts/e-postmaster/e-post_index.html.

4. Schools are encouraged to make use of the WCED’s e-postmaster system as far as possible in future. Schools and officials are also kindly requested to check their e-mail at least three times every day and to ensure that incoming mail receives immediate attention.
5. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all concerned.
