1. The Western Cape Education Department invited educators by means of Circular 0043/2003 to apply for registration for the ACE: Integrating Values and Human Rights into the Curriculum.
2. The bursary holder is the national Department of Education and the service provider, the Faculty of Education of the University of the Western Cape.
3. Over nine hundred educators applied to be considered for the course. However, applicants must kindly note that the WCED allocation, determined by the national Department of Education, is only seventy-two educators.
4. The setting of criteria for the selection process, and the selection of candidates, was done in collaboration with the teacher unions and is based on a national framework. The final list of applicants has now been submitted to the University of the Western Cape who will communicate with them in due course. The list has also been sent to chief curriculum advisers at EMDCs.
5. Applicants not contacted by the University of the Western Cape by 27 June 2003 must accept that their application was unsuccessful.
6. The WCED wants to thank those educators who had shown interest in the course and wishes those candidates who will participate in the course every success.
7. The WCED envisages that those teachers who successfully complete the course will play a very important role in their EMDCs, schools and communities in capacitating colleagues to infuse values into the curriculum. The WCED will enhance this process by establishing appropriate structures to support this very important initiative throughout the province.
