The National Teaching Awards provides the education fraternity with the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of outstanding educators. More than this, it showcases the exceptional work done by all teachers and applauds their tremendous efforts. The Western Cape Education Department is proud to host and administer the National Teaching Awards in the province, and fully supports the ideals associated with this process.
By recognizing excellence and a high level of professionalism, all educators are made aware of the benchmarks for exemplary teaching practice.
The different categories of awards are as follows:
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHING
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHING
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AT THE PRIMARY LEVEL
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHING
CATEGORY: LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
All teachers are welcome to participate in the process and to forward nominations through their principals, who will in turn submit these to their respective Education Management and Development Centres [EMDCs]. The criteria and format for nominations have already been sent to schools.
