1. While the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) is being phased in, new textbooks and workbooks, aligned with the CAPS, are being written.
2. Officials visiting schools have noticed that textbooks not aligned with CAPS are taking up space in storerooms at schools.
3. Textbooks which will not be used in future must be recorded in the disposal register and reported to the education district office.
4. The asset register must then be updated to record the disposal of those books.
5. District offices may grant permission for schools to issue redundant textbooks to learners to be used in a way that will complement the new textbooks and/or to dispose of redundant and damaged textbooks.
6. Schools that have an oversupply of CAPS-aligned textbooks and workbooks must complete the attached form (Annexure A) and return it to the LTSM coordinator at their education district office. (See the attached Annexure B for the names of these officials.)
7. If a school does not complete and return the attached form, it will be assumed that the school has no excess CAPS-aligned textbooks or workbooks.
8. Kindly bring the content of this minute to the attention of all members of staff.
